Whether or not you agree with her political views, there's no denying that Kathy Dunderdale worked hard in order to become the first female Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador. She showed us that women can lead and make a real difference in government.
Born in February 1952 in Burin, Newfoundland, Kathy got her start in politics on the Burin town council in the 1980s.
In 2003, Kathy was elected to the Newfoundland and Labrador House of Assembly as a Progressive Conservative. She quickly climbed the political ladder, becoming Deputy Premier in 2008.
The big moment came on December 3, 2010, when Kathy became the 10th premier of Newfoundland and Labrador after Danny Williams retired. But she didn't stop there! In October 2011, she led the Progressive Conservatives to victory in the general election, cementing her place in history.
Here are some fun facts about Kathy: Premier of Newfoundland
She's only the second woman in Canadian history to lead a party to victory in a provincial election.
Kathy comes from a big family - she was one of eleven children!
Before entering politics, she worked in community development, communications, fisheries, and social work.
Kathy's time as premier was marked by a strong economy and major development deals in natural resources.
There's no denying that Kathy has worked hard in her political career over the years. She's inspired young girls to believe in themselves and know that hard work pays off, regardless of the industry.
